Epiphany Honors National Purposeful Parenting Month
July 21, 2015
National Purposeful Parenting Month in July is aimed at building strong, positive relationships between parents and their children.
Parenting under the best of circumstances can be daunting; parenting while struggling with recovery, finding housing, and gaining employment can feel downright impossible. Epiphany provides at-risk women and children with a place to feel safe and secure. Predictability. A strong foundation. One of the primary building blocks of this foundation is vital parenting support in the form of an eight-week series of Circle of Security Classes.
On June 10, 2015, Epiphany staff gathered to celebrate eight women who successfully completed the entire series of classes. A relationship based early intervention program, Circle of Security helps parents see their children’s emotional needs and reflect on their own responses to those needs.
“I appreciate the opportunity to offer this group to these wonderful women,” said Epiphany Parenting Counselor Cheryl Sundheim. “And, I thank our Executive Director Sister Estela for serving as the catalyst, making these classes possible.”
During the ceremony, each woman stood up to be honored with an official Certificate of Attendance. “Congratulations! This is the biggest Circle of Security group ever in Epiphany’s history. This group also had the best attendance and laughed the loudest, despite the serious weekly topics. And, what’s one of the healthiest things for moms and babies? Laughter!,” said Cheryl.
“It’s so exciting to see so many women participating in Circle of Security,” said Executive Director Sister Estela. “We can learn new ways to be in better relationships, so thank you to all of the women for participating. Even learning just one new idea about how to better relate to children makes a huge impact.”
One of the participating new moms expressed her gratitude for the “awesome” parenting tools. “Epiphany has given me the opportunity to provide my baby son with an incredibly healthy environment. I do believe because of this, he is so happy and wakes up with a smile every day.”
